Traditional Vietnamese silk embroidery is well known throughout Southeast Asia . For thousands of years, embroidery in Vietnam was exclusively used in clothing for royalty and the wealthy. It wasn't until the 17th century that a Vietnamese Mandarin named Le Cong Thanh after a business trip to China combined the Chinese embroidery technique with that of Vietnam to create a new artistic technique. Today, areas in Vietnam well known for embroidery are: Ha Tay province in the North, Hue and Da Nang in the Central and Da Lat in the South.
